This document describes how to connect a UDT computer to a network printer shared from another computer or from the district PRINTER server. This general procedure also works for many Windows 95, 98, 2000, and XP computers. First verify that the printer you wish to print to does not already appear in your printers folder. To open your Printers folder on the Start button, then select Settings, then Printers. If the printer you wish to use is not listed in your Printers folder then you will need to add it to your computer. UDT Note: Using the procedure described in this document on a UDT (NPS Unified DeskTop) computer will add the printer for your current login session only. The printer will disappear from this computer when you log out. If you need to permanently add a network printer to your computer then you should use the NPS Desktop Manager utility. At this point you'll need to know the network path to the printer. This information may be obtained from:
Now that you have the network path for your network printer, you are ready to add it to your computer. Return to your computer. Double-click on the Add Printer icon in the Printers folder on your computer. This should launch the Add Printer Wizard. Select Network printer server. Click Next. Enter the network path to the printer in the box labeled Printer:. Click OK. (If you are not on a UDT system you may be asked to add a printer driver so it's a good idea to have your driver disk(s) handy.) Next, you will be asked: "Do you want your Windows-based programs to use this printer as the default printer?" Click either Yes or No, then Click Next. Then click Finish. If the printer you wish to print from is not shared, you will most likely need to have someone with administrative rights setup the printer for sharing.
