F-Prot Anti-Virus Software
|
A quick reminder:  Some viruses are destructive and delete
(or overwrite) files. You should always have at least
two copies of important files saved in two different locations - One
of which should be on recordable media outside of your computer (such
as floppy disk, Zip disk, CD, or DVD, or USB flash drive).
Norman Public Schools
has a district license for the
F-Prot antivirus software.
If you need to install (or update your version of)
the F-Prot antivirus scanner on an NPS
UDT
computer you can click
here*
to access the installer program on a district server.
Windows will present you with a dialog box allowing you the option
to Open (or Run) the installer program from its current
location (which is the typical installation choice) or you can choose
to Save the installer program for later use. Either way,
installing software from a local administrative account is usually
better than from your UDT account to avoid the risk of corrupting your
UDT profile.
The F-Prot virus definitions (the list of viruses your copy of
F-Prot Antivirus recognizes) are automatically updated on networked
UDT-XP computers that are booted (powered on) inside the NPS network.
To update the list of F-Prot virus definitions on other computers
you can use the F-Prot Updater
program which is accessible in the Windows Start menu under F-Prot
or via the Updater button in the OnDemand scanner. You can choose
to update your virus definitions from the Internet or from
our Local area network (LAN). The Local network update
location for the NPS district is:   \\files\vdefs
Windows users can view the 3.3MB Windows help file for F-Prot by clicking
here and selecting Open this file
from its current location in the File Download window that appears.
Or you can download that file by selecting Save this file to disk in
the File Download window.
NPS UDT
users can find the F-Prot help file on the NPS District shared space at:
  S:\district\F-Prot-help.cfm *
You can also read more about F-Prot on their web site:
www.f-prot.com.

Some files mentioned in this web page are restricted to Norman Public School
computers which have access to DCC file servers.
