Q: How do I run a display session on the UDT?
A:
First, you must have the IBM Client Access AS400 software
installed on your UDT (Unified Desktop) computer.
Second, your UDT account must be set up to use the
AS400 software on that computer (see the question
below for more on this). If you meet both of these criteria,
you should be able to run the AS400 software one of two ways:
- If the AS400 software was installed by the DCC, you will
probably find a desktop shortcut that allows you to start a
new display session. To run the AS400 from this desktop
shortcut all you need do is double-click on the AS400 shortcut.
- Whether or not you have a desktop AS400 shortcut, you
should be able to start your AS400 software from the Start
button menu:
Start / Programs / IBM AS400 Client Access /
AS400 Display
Q: How do I set up my UDT account for the AS400?
A:
This may have been done for you when your computer was initially
set up. If you are attempting to connect to the AS400 and you get
a popup window entitled Signon to AS/400 with a message
similar to:
CWBSY0002 - Password for user YOURNAME on system AS400
is not correct
Then (1) your username or password may have been incorrectly entered, or
(2) you may need to set up the AS400 software on this computer to accept
your username. To set up your UDT account to be an AS400 user on this
computer you should run the following from the Start button menu:
Start / Programs / IBM AS400 Client Access /
Service / New User Setup
You may also need to perform this step on other UDT computers
from which you wish to connect to the AS400.
Q: Can I run multiple display sessions on the UDT?
A:
Yes, it is possible to run multiple AS400 display sessions on UDT computers. There are two methods for starting additional AS400 display sessions:
- From within your AS400 window, click on
File, then
Run the Same.
- The same procedure that started your original
AS400 display session -- your desktop icon or start button menu --
should also start additional sessions.
Starting additional display sessions may produce an AS400
message similar to:
Job 220952/YOURNAME/QPADEV0011 started on 05/26/99 at 17:21:26 in subsystem
Message queue YOURNAME is allocated to another job.
Press Enter to continue.
This is normal. Press your AS400 Enter key
(the right Ctrl button on most workstations)
to finish connecting this additional display session.
Q: Where do my AS400 printouts go?
A:
There are printers at each of our sites that are designated AS400
printers. Consult your local site staff to determine which of those
printers might be the most convenient for you to use. You may wish
to submit a Technology Work Request (TWR) or contact the District Computer Center (DCC) to change your default AS400 printer.
Large print jobs and print jobs requiring special forms will be
printed at the DCC (366-5822). The Information Systems Operator
at the DCC (447-6561) can provide more information on special
forms and printing procedures.
You should be able to get a printout of the current AS400 screen
(a "screen snapshot" print) on your (default) local printer:
From within your AS400 window, click on File,
then Print screen
If the need arrises, it may be possible to set up a new AS400
output queue and establish an additional AS400 printer at your site.
You should consult with your site administrators and the DCC staff
if you need an additional AS400 printer.
