DeskTop Manager


    Some procedures mentioned in this document may require ADMINISTRATIVE ACCESS

"Currently this application is only available on Version 2.0 and newer of the UDT."


The NPS Desktop Manager is a feature that allows for a more user friendly enviornment for long term adjustments.
It includes "Automation", "Drives", "Printers", "Network", "Groups", and "Visibility".
Read the brief description below and choose the one you wish to learn how to use.

  • AUTOMATION: Defines automatic login / and powerdown settings.

  • DRIVES: Defines permanent (persistent) drive mappings.

  • PRINTERS: Defines permanent (persistent) printer connections.

  • NETWORK: Defines LDAP and other Network settings.

  • GROUPS: Defines visitor group assignments.

  • VISIBILITY: Defines drive visibility.


  • How to use;

    NPS Desktop Manager

    Click on the "Start Menu"
    Go to "Common Programs"
    Over to "Accessories"
    Over to "Administrive Tools"
    Over and Down to "NPS Desktop Manager" then click.
    You can now click on either the tabs or the buttons to select your desired attribute.

    Automation:

    This area is used to automatically logon the user of your choice after the allotted time (Timeout) has expired.
    Down in the corner of this window you will see a box. If you want to automatically power down when you choice to shutdown then make certain that this box is checked.

    Drives:

    This area is used to map drives that are persistent and do not require reconnection.

    "Warning! These settings do not take if the drive already has been created through another method and is still connected, so check to see if the drive you wish to create is not already created in "Network Neighborhood" if it is present, you need to "Disconnect" that drive and restart your machine. Then use the "NPS Desktop Manager" to create the drive."

    Adding a Drive
    First select the "Drive" letter that you wish to use.
    Next under the "Mapping" box you will place the path that you want to connect to.
    Once this is done the "Add" button should be highlighted.
    Click "Add"
    The path should now appear under "Drive Mappings" now click "OK".
    You have now created a permanent drive.

    Removing a Drive
    To Remove a drive simply click on the chosen drive which highlights it.
    Next you simply click on "Remove".
    Click "OK".

    Printers:

    This area allows the user to connect printers both local and network.

    Network
    First check to see if the path of the printer is already shown.
    If it is simply highlight and click "Add".
    Then click "OK".
    If it is not shown, then under the "Printer Share", type in the path of your printer.
    Then click Add.
    Then click "OK".

    Local
    Do all the above steps and then select the one you want and click "LPT1" or (LPT2, LPT3)depending on wich port your printer is plugged into.

    Default
    This assigns a printer of your choice to automatically print all assignments unless otherwise specified.
    To do this simply select the printer you want then click "Default".
    Then click "OK".

    Network:

    Network settings are pre-configured for the NPS Desktop and should rarely, if ever, need adjustment.

    Groups:

    This area allows for the addition of groups to the user.

    "Most of these must be added through an Administrative Account".

    First enter the users login name in the "Vistior" box.
    Then click "Add". Then you may choose the desired group in either the "Vistior's Groups" or the "Available Groups".
    Then click "OK".

    Visibility:

    This area sets whether or not a drive will be visible to that user.

    "Most of these must be set through an Administrative Account".

    First select the group that you are setting constraints on in the "Groups" box.
    Then click on the "Hide Drive Letters" and type in the letter that represents the drive that you do not want that user group to see.
    Then click on the "Show Drive Letters" and type in the letter that represents the drive that you do want that user group to see.
    Then click on "OK".
