Edit UDT Access Levels

Some procedures mentioned in this document may require ADMINISTRATIVE ACCESS

Different Levels of Access for UDT Users

FYI: These are the defaults of different levels of access since a local Administrator can change things so that everyone has any amount of control over the computer.

Although anyone can install software, not everyone can change system settings. Therefore, software that attempts to change system settings during the installation process will fail for someone that does not have the ability to change system settings.

Guest:
    A: drive hidden, but accessible
    C: drive hidden, but accessible
    "The Network" is hidden
    Can not run browsers
    Can not change system settings
Can not delete most files from the C: drive
One "feature" of the Guest account is that any changes made to the Guest profile are lost when the user logs out. This is usually a good thing; the guest account is left in good shape for the next user who wants to use it. Unfortunately, this also means that any network drives that are mapped for the Guest account will be lost after that session ends

Student:
    A: drive hidden, but accessible
    C: drive hidden, but accessible
    "The Network" is hidden
    Can not change system settings
Can not delete most files from the C: drive
Staff:
    A: drive is visible
    C: drive hidden, but accessible
    "The Network" is hidden
    Can not change system settings
Can not delete most files from the C: drive
Local Administrator:
    No restrictions
Desktop Administrator:
    No restrictions
Password Administrator:
This is not UDT specific and does not belong in the group with the latter users. PW administrator is a privilege that exists outside of the UDT. It just happens that currently the only way to change passwords is via the UDT. One day passwords will be changed via the Web, too. Soon, a PW admin will not even need access to a UDT machine to change passwords. So, PW administrator is a privilege that is given in addition to one of the profiles above and has nothing to do with the local computer.
