Changing Passwords for Others

Some procedures mentioned in this document may require ADMINISTRATIVE ACCESS

To Change Password of Another User

FYI: Only those who were given Password Administration rights have the ability to change passwords for others! Desktop Administrator and Password Administrator are two separate capabilities. It is possible, and common, for a person to have both capabilities. Desktop Administrators have the ability to create local user accounts. They also have full control over a local machine (access to the C: drive). This is different than having Password Administration rights, which authorizes a person (typically the site administrator) to change not only their own password, but other user passwords as needed.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Press Control + Alternate + Delete to log on

  2. Type your User Name and Password in the window that appears

  3. Press Control + Alternate + Delete again when your desktop is finished loading and a new screen will come up.

  4. (Click) the Change Password button in this screen.

  5. [At the “Change Password” dialog box] Choose other in the “Change for”]

  6. (Click) OK

  7. Type in the User Name and New Password

  8. Type in the New Password again to verify the password

  9. (Click) OK

  10. [The computer will ask you for your Password]

  11. After you enter your password, the computer will tell you that the other user’s password has been successfully created.
