The NPS district Share Space is the share folder on the UDT S: drive. The Share Space Manager allows you to (1) create folders in the NPS district Share Space, (2) determine which UDT users can access those folders, and (3) control what type of access those users should have (read vs. read & write).
If you do not have any folders on the Share Space then the Share Space Manager will prompt you to create a new share. You can also reach this window by clicking on Create New Share from within the Share Space Manager. Enter a name for your new shared folder into the blank labelled Share Name. Then click on the Create Share button and the Share Space Manager will create a new folder by that name beneath the folder bearing your UDT username on the district Share Space. You do not need to create the folder bearing your username in the district Share Space; it appears automatically when you create a shared folder. You can share multiple folders in the Share Space. Once a folder is added to the Share Space you - and those you grant permission - may add, delete, and change files and folders within that shared folder Windows. The Share Space Manager is used to create and manage the access rights to your shared folders - not the content they contain.
If you have folders on the Share Space when the Share Space Manager first opens or if you click on Work with Shares when you are in the Share Space Manager, then your list of shared folders will appear in the shared folder table. Each shared folder will appear in its own row of the table. Your shared folder table lists the Share Name you entered when you created each of your shared folders, the number of Users who have permission to enter each shared folder and an indication of whether or not each shared folder is Active. If a shared folder is "active" then the users you have given permission to enter that folder will see it in the Share Space under the folder bearing your username. A shared folder which is not active will not appear to anyone else. This allows you If you wish to delete a shared folder you can click the box in the far right column of the row for that shared folder. Then click on the Delete button at the top of that column. If you wish to delete multiple folder you may check multiple boxes prior to clicking the Delete button. If you accidentally delete the wrong share you should immediately create a new share by the same name and the folder and its contents will reappear. Deleted shares as well as the files and folders they contained are purged from the system overnight. If you click on the share name of a folder you can manage the list of UDT users (students and/or staff) who may access that shared folder. You grant access to shared folders by entering individual UDT usernames or by allowing access to all staff (teachers, administrators, & support staff) at an NPS site (using the 3-digit site code for that site). Clicking on the access type for a user will toggle the access between Read Only and Read & Write. You can grant some users Read & Write access while allowing others to remain at the Read Only level. You can delete users from the access list using the same procedure described above for deleting shared folders. You can click on Work with Shares at any time to return to the table listing your shared folders.
This exits the Share Space Manager and closes the browser window. |
