Network Patch Cables

Patch Cable Notes: The NPS Warehouse sells patch cables at wholesale costs that typically range from $1-$4. Patch cables are high-markup items for some local retailers who sell them for $10-$30. Network cabling standards state patch cables should not exceed 10 feet in length from a network jack on a wall or a pole to a computer, printer, switch, etc. Patch cables connecting a computer or printer directly to a switch in the same room (such as the small "desktop" switch listed below) may exceed 10 feet.

Switch Notes: The cost for these desktop switches may vary from one purchase to the next but generally fall near the middle of the $40-$50 price range. Use a network patch cable (above) to connect one port on the switch to a network outlet on a wall or pole. You should not plug a switch into another switch without first checking with the District Computer Center.
