1. Explain the reasons why people in different parts of the United States and the world often eat different foods, dress differently, live in different kinds of houses, and have different jobs.
2. Identify various forms of transportation (e.g., cars and airplanes) and purposes they serve (e.g., the movement of people, food, and equipment).

  1. Introduce the concepts of dairy foods and dairy production. Have students brainstorm a list of questions (i.e., what foods come from milk, what types of cows make milk, how much milk does a cow produce, what are the steps in the process, etc.)

  2. Have students open a word processing program (Start>Common Programs>Works>Works Tools>Word Processor).

  3. Students will set up their document to record the facts they find on a web page. Explain that they will be putting their facts into an acrostic poem.

  4. Demonstrate how to type the word COWS along the left margin.

  5. Demonstrate how to change the font size and make the print bold.

  6. Have students Save (File>Save As), Print page (File>Print)and Quit the program.(File>Exit).

  7. Demonstrate the Braum's web site http://www.braums.com .Go the "Just for Kids" section, then to the"All About Cows" link.

  8. Have students type in the URL http://www.braums.com and then bookmark the site. (Bookmarks = Navigator; Favorites = Internet Explorer)

  9. Assign each student a section of the web site (e.g., proper diet, types of cows, etc.). Allow time for students to read their section and record four facts on their acrostic. (You may want to model this activity using one of the sections.)

  10. Allow time for students to share their information.
