| Oklahoma PASS Objectives Grades 1-3 Life Science XI. Characteristics and Basic Needs of Organisms A. Plants and animals need to take in air, water, and food. In addition, plants need light. B. Plants and animals have features that help them live in environments such as air, water, or land. C. Each plant or animal has different structures that serve different functions in growth and survival (e.g., the way it moves, type of food it needs, and where it lives). D. Scientists use the five senses and tools (e.g., magnifiers and rulers) to gather information, such as size and shape about living things. XII. Life Cycles of Organisms A. Plants and animals have life cycles that include developing into adults, reproducing, and eventually dying. The details of this life cycle are different for different organisms. B. Generally, offspring resemble their parents. XII. Organisms and Environments A. All animals depend on plants. Some animals eat plants for food. Other animals eat animals that eat the plants. B. Hibernation, migration, and camouflage are ways organisms increase their survival. C. Plant and animal materials decay and are reused in the environment. Language Arts NPS Curriculum NPS Technology Students open and save files to their own network drive. Students print a document. Students insert a letter or word using the cursor. Students use the mouse to choose options in a menu. Students use the text tool to describe a picture in a paint program. Students collaborate in the creation of a multimedia slide show containing text and graphics. Students use punctuation keys. Students type phrases. Students use a web browser, buttons and hypertext links. Students use a favorites or bookmarked list to access web sites. Students do a keyword search using an online encyclopedia. Students enter an internet address (URL) to access a web site. Students bookmark web sites. Students use a word processing program. Students select text and change the text size, font, and style. |
Description: In this unit students will
progress through the roles of Explorer, Researcher,
Designer, and Evaluator as they learn about the life
cycle of plants, insects, butterflies and frogs. Student as Explorer : Students explore a variety books, videos, and web sites to discover new and interesting things about plants.
Student as Researcher: Students investigate, research, and conduct experiments with plants.
Student as Designer: Students design creative products that explain and illustrate properties of plants, how people and other animals use plants, and how plants benefit the environment.
