NPS Technology Scope & Sequence Objectives

Students open and save files to their own network drive (U drive/My Stuff).

Students use tools in a paint program:pencil, eraser, paintbrush, spray can, and paint bucket.

Students change colors and patterns in a paint program.

Students use the line and shape tools in a paint program.

Students use the text tool to describe a picture in a paint program.

Students type sentences.

Students enter an internet address (URL) to access a web site.

Students insert, move, and resize a graphic in a document.

Students use different views (outline, slide sorter, etc.) to create and organize multimedia presentations.

Students individually create a multimedia slide show presentation.

*Students use transitions and create simple animations in a multimedia program.

*Students add sounds to a multimedia presentation.

*Optional activities and skills

Description: Students will explore math and art concepts, create digital art examples of the concepts, and incorporate these works into a PowerPoint portfolio with explanation and analysis.

Tools: protractors, compass, ruler, crayons, large sheets of butcher paper for Venn diagrams and graphs
Software: MS Paint and PowerPoint
Manipulatives: Color chips with color on one side and name of color on reverse.

1. Preview the activities for this lesson at http://www.norman.k12.ok.us/092/techscope/science&math/PASSart/index.htm . Prior to activities and lessons students will explore and discuss various original works of art using art books, art prints, and web sites (see links below).

2. Use color chip manipulatives to determine sets. Explore grouping, sorting and classifying.

3. Create color mix diagrams in Paint (START>Common Programs>Accessories> Paint), then write a math story problem. Save the Paint files to each student's My Stuff (U:) drive.

4. Explore angles and fractions creating understanding of degrees and fractions to create a circle divided into 12 equal sections.

5. Students create a still life in Paint using the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors of one family. Save Paint files to My Stuff (U:) drive.

6. Extension lesson: Open and modify still life to emulate style of Impressionists.

7. Students create a PowerPoint "art portfolio" and insert their saved Paint files.See example at http://www.norman.k12.ok.us/092/techscope/science&math/PASSart/sld018.htm Use the PowerPoint portfolio rubric (this is a MS Word document) to guide students in creating the PowerPoint.
