A. The sun warms the land, air, and water.
B. Weather changes from day to day and over the seasons. Weather can be observed by measuring temperature and describing cloud formations.

First Grade Math

Express mathematical ideas coherently and clearly to peers, teachers, and others (e.g., with verbal ideas, models or manipulatives, pictures, or symbols).

A.
Explain mathematical situations using patterns and relationships (e.g., identify patterns in situations, represent patterns in a variety of ways, extend patterns to connect with more general cases).

Demonstrate thinking processes using a variety of age-appropriate materials and reasoning processes.

A. Relate various concrete and pictorial models of concepts and procedures to one another.

  1. Have students open an Internet browser such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer.(Start>Common Programs)

  2. Have students click and pull down on Bookmarks/Favorites to access a weather web site. (Teacher will need to have previously bookmarked these sites for the students. Below are some suggested web sites.)

  3. Have students report the day's weather. Will we have outdoor recess? Do we need coats and hats?

  4. Have a students write the day's forecast on the class whiteboard or report it on a class weather graph.

  • You may want to combine this lesson with the Science Activity #1.

  • Students can make a monthly weather graph using this data (see example below).
