- Review with students that the work
they do on a computer can be saved and retrieved
for use at a later time. Explain that when they
open files from a network they may encounter
files that don't belong to them. Create a class
list of things that they should and shouldn't do
with or to the files they may find. Use this
opportunity to introduce NPS Wide Area Network
policies.
- Have students turn their computers
on.
- Discuss the placement of files on
a floppy disk, computer hard drive or network
drive. Use the metaphor of searching for a
document in a file cabinet with folders.
- Have students find their
previously saved list of spelling words (See
Spelling Activity #1).
- Demonstrate how to double-click on
the icon to open the file.
- Have students open the file.
- Demonstrate how to click-hold-drag
to select text.
- Have students click-hold-drag to
select the words on their list.
- Demonstrate the use of the font
size button on the toolbar.

of their spelling list.

shortcut button in the toolbar. (The Print
button will automatically print the whole
document. To print only certain pages, use the
File>Print menu.)

take home

repeat Spelling Activity #1 and 2 on their own
for future spelling lists.
