SPECIAL PROGRAMS

EMOTIONAL / BEHAVIORAL DISORDERS

The E.D. / B.D. program at Wilson Elementary School is a primary unit consisting of students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The curriculum is academic and affective based. These students receive progressive tasks in reading, writing and mathematics. They also receive assignments in the areas of critical thinking (such as problem solving and deductive reasoning), anger management, and social skills.

The program has a second component consisting of behavioral management practices, including but not limited to, goal setting, rewards and a consequence system. This behavioral program is highly structured and incorporates internal, external and natural discipline practices.

Another component consists of behavioral interventions and practices applied to the home environment. For any questions, concerns or comments please feel free to call Cyndee Baez at Wilson Elementary School, 366-5932 or visit my webpage.

LEARNING DISABILITIES

Wilson has two learning disabilities -- mild/moderate classes. Teachers work with identified children needing extra help or modifications. This may be whole group, small group or individual instruction. For any questions please feel free to call Jamie Medina or Elizabeth Harper at Wilson Elementary School, 366-5932.

 Speech and Language Services

The purpose of having speech/language services in the school is to improve the communication skills of the students.  Some of the areas that speech/language pathologists frequently treat are articulation and phonological delays (difficulty pronouncing certain sounds and patterns) and a variety of language delays and disorders.
