PRIMETIME…
Reading!

Help us grow a school-wide culture of reading at Irving!
Irving Middle School will be promoting "a culture of reading" at the middle school level. Every student at Irving will be asked to have a library book, or a reading for pleasure book, with him or her at all times. Language arts classes will be taking students to the library once a month to allow students to continuously obtain PRIMETIME… Reading books at school. However, students can also bring a book from home or from the public library with them to school daily. The books should be at least 100 pages in length, and they should be fiction books, unless a language arts teacher directs students otherwise.
At anytime throughout the school day, when students find their class work completed or when they have a quiet time, they should take out their books for personal PRIMETIME… Reading! This will be the school-wide expectation, and a child will never know when a teacher might "catch a student" in PRIMETIME… Reading, and reward him or her! Additionally, all classes will have classroom PRIMETIME… Reading. During this time, students will have sustained reading time during their class periods. Again, students should have their books with them at all times, and a 100-point participation grade will be taken for classroom PRIMETIME… Reading!
As we begin to grow our culture of reading at Irving, we appreciate the students’ participation and the parent and community support. Reading truly is the gateway to many things—better writing, better grades, and better test-taking skills—and we know that middle school is a PRIMETIME to get students interested in great books!
Keep reading Irving students!
