Acting: Students will practice character development through changes in movement, voice, mannerism and body language and will analyze scripts or create improvisations.
Author, Children’s: An award-winning children’s author discusses life as a writer and the process of turning an idea into a published novel.  Students will listen to excerpts of their writing and experience strategies used by novelists in this genre.
Author, Young Adult: An award-winning young adult author discusses life as a writer and the process of turning an idea into a published novel.  Students will listen to excerpts of their writing and experience strategies used by novelists in this genre.
Calligraphy: Learn the art of beautiful penmanship.  This  beautiful, stylized, or elegant handwriting or lettering is made with pen or brush and ink and involves the correct formation of characters, the ordering of the various parts, and the harmony of proportions.
Cartooning: Participants will learn a variety of innovative and creative techniques including line drawing and shading to transform a portrait or animal into a cartoon character and develop skill in creating cartoon characters from life forms.
Claymation: Have you ever watched the dancing California Raisins and wondered how it was done?  Experiment Claymation as we write, create and practice our video and editing skills.  Learn to tell a brief story using figures, objects and Legos in this art form. 
Dance: Be introduced to basic elements and vocabulary of dance as you develop skills for infusing emotions and kinesthetic principles into movement and learn and apply movement concepts to enhance their skills for creating dance. Two routines will be taught.
Debate: Principles and practices of debate will help you intelligently discuss the big issues of the day—and communicate in many speaking situations you’ll encounter in school and adult life.
Drumming: Everyone has rhythm!!! Learn some very basic African rhythms in this class that introduces the fanga, samba and drum chant.  Students will master three rhythms during the session. Drums will be provided, but participants who have an African drum may prefer to bring their own.
Graphic Arts: Using various digital photo-editing applications, students will learn basic terminology and editing features, ways to capture digital images from the Internet and digital cameras, and use of scanner to convert regular camera photos in digital images.
Illustrator: A professional illustrator will show students how to use the elements of shades and lines to create original drawings and fun characters in this hands-on workshop.
Journalist: Learn about the life of a news reporter and the five questions that must be answered when researching a news story.
Mime: Basic pantomime skills, theatre games, non-verbal and body communication, trust exercises, juggling, cooperation and competition games help students learn to work toward a goal. Participants will enjoy learning basic pantomime skills and routines like the wall, rope, robot, and mannequin.
Mixed Media: Students will use two or more contrasting media or materials to create a single original piece of art.
Mural Art: Participants will use group process and art skills to create an original mural which will reflect each individual artist as well as the spirit of the Get the Lead Out Festival.  A variety of techniques and materials will be used to design and construct this unique collage of artistic styles.
Native American Basket Weaving: This workshop will introduce students to the ancient art of basket weaving. one of the oldest art forms. Baskets will be woven by hand with vegetable fibers.
Origami: Students will combine the geometric structures of math with art as they learn and practice the ancient art of origami.
Pastels: Students will practice techniques unique to the use of pastels, crayons made from colored pigment, to draw and color.
Playwright: Students will focus on the expressive arts as they combine stories and the dramatic arts to create plots, invent original characters and construct related settings.
Poetry: Participants will focus on the literary elements of voice, rhythm, imagery and figurative language and form in writing and creative process exercises. Students will use their imaginations, experiences and the world around them as sources of inspiration for self-expression.
Pottery, hand built: Students will learn hand building, coil and pinch techniques, and free shape forms as they create individual pieces from original ideas and creative expression.
Pottery, wheel-thrown: Students will create different projects using clay that is shaped on a wheel and then fired. Completed projects will be delivered at a later date so students can take them home to share with their families. 8 per session
Printmaking: Create an Andy Warhol-style self portrait from a favorite photograph.
Project Bling!: Create your own original wearable art.  Students will apply the elements of line, color and design with the techniques of jewelry making to make wearable art.
Song Writer: Combine talents in writing and music to create an original piece of music as you learn about the profession of song writing.
Sports Commentator: Love sports? Find out first hand what it is like to be a media sports commentator in print, radio and TV.
Video Production, 4 and 5 grade: Learn the basics of shooting and editing videos and explore approaches to camera work,  light and sound. Participants will collaborate to develop shooting scripts and work in teams to shoot, act, direct and provide technical support. (1 session in length)
Video Production, 6th to 8th grade: Effectively and creatively tell a story while honing media, video and computer skills. Learn the basics of shooting and editing videos and explore approaches to camera work, light and sound. Participants will collaborate to develop shooting scripts, shoot, act, direct and provide technical support to produce a TV show on GLO. (All morning,)
Watercolors: Students will explore various techniques and textures and use the water color medium to complete several projects.
Weaving: Learn the ancient art of textile weaving by placing two yarns into the warp and weft of a loom to create a cloth bracelet or original art product.
