All genres and media will be accepted, and first, second, and third place cash prizes of $20, $15, and $10 respectively, will be awarded for writing (prose and poetry) and two- and three-dimensional art in each of two divisions, 4th–5th grades and 6th–8th grades. Participants must meet all contest requirements and be present at GLO to win.
Contest Requirements:
Entries must be mailed to Longfellow and postmarked by Feb. 1 or submitted to Longfellow by 4:00 pm, Friday, February 5. This is an extension due to the recent bad weather and school closings.
Submit one original copy of written work or one original of art work.
All entries must be appropriate for an upper elementary/middle school audience.
Place student’s full name, address and school on the back of each written page or art entry.
Written entries must be typed or written legibly in black ink.
Prose entries must be at least one full page and may not exceed 10 pages in length as only the first 10 pages will be read.
Entries must be the original work of a festival-registered student.
Students may submit works in more than one genre or medium, with a maximum of two works in the same genre.
Students must submit the completed festival registration form and fee with the contest entries.
Entrants must be present at the festival to win.
Contestants may pick up their entries at the close of the festival or at Longfellow during the following week.
Two-dimensional artwork may not be submitted on lined paper.
All decisions of the judges are final.
