The Longfellow Eighth Grade Treble Chorus and Mixed Chorus received Outstanding Achievement Awards at District Contest.  They earned a Superior Rating in both Performance and Sight Singing.  The Chorus also will be participating in the Tri-State Music Festival in Enid on April 30th.  Wish them luck.

The counseling staff will be identifying  students who qualify for summer school. Students who do not pass their CRTs in Math and/or Reading are being asked to attend summer school to improve their academic skills. NPS provides this service to students to remediate low performance areas identified on the state mandated tests so that students can be more successful in school. Parents will be receiving a letter that should be signed and returned to your student’s counselor.

Message from the Principal to Parents

Thank you for your continued support as a successful school year comes to a close. I appreciate the commitment of time from members of PTA, Booster Club, and Office Volunteers. Even at the middle school level your time makes a difference and is noticed by students and staff.

On March 27th, our fire alarm sounded between classes due to a lightning strike. The students and staff did a great job moving to a safe building, the gym. As the rain and lightning continued, everyone waited for the all clear from the fire department. We did not have a fire and were out of class approximately twenty minutes. The strike disabled a fire panel which had to be replaced. A security officer was assigned to our building for fire watch while waiting for the panel to be replaced. I hope this clears up several rumors and fears.

The new Immediate Response Information System(IRIS) a web-based notification system, will enable us to contact our Longfellow community directly and quickly with information if there is a problem in the future. You should have received a test call this week from the new system. Thank you again, parents, for your concern and input as we work together towards a safe learning environment at Longfellow.

The 6th grade GT field trip entitled “Legal Eagles” will be held on Friday, May 1.  The GT students attending this visit to the OU Law School will learn about the various careers in the legal profession and academic preparation necessary to pursue a career in this area.  In addition, students will participate in a mock trial in the university court room.

The academic achievement of Longfellow students who have been on the school honor roll, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the three academic quarters this year will be celebrated on Friday, May 8.  Our honor roll students will be invited to attend the free Academic Success Movie and picnic lunch in the park which will be held in their honor.  Invitations will be given out to qualifying students the week of April 27.

Please remember that state mandated CRTs are this month. Make sure students get plenty of rest, good breakfasts, and arrive to school on time. If you have an 8th grade student, remind him/her that the 8th grade Reading CRT determines if he/she receives a driver’s permit!
