District Coordinators |
Roger Nunn is in his 29th year of teaching instrumental music and has been teaching in the Norman Public School district since 1991. He is currently and has been the district’s Band Coordinator for the past 10 years and has continued to teach all levels of band students as a traveling team teacher in Norman middle and high schools. Mr. Nunn received his bachelor degree in music education as well as a masters degree in trombone performance from the University of Oklahoma. Before joining the Norman Public Schools band staff, he taught middle school and high school band in the Oklahoma City Public Schools. He has also taught as an adjunct low brass instructor at the University of Oklahoma. Along with his coordinating and teaching duties, Mr. Nunn is a professional freelance trombonist in the central Oklahoma area having performed with the Enid Symphony Orchestra, the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oklahoma Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lyric Theater Orchestra, the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Orchestra, the Edmond Jazz Band and the Oklahoma City Jazz Orchestra. He also serves as a band and low brass clinician in Oklahoma as well as being a brass adjudicator. He is a member of the Music Educators Association, Oklahoma Music Educations Association, and the Central Oklahoma Directors Association.
Brenda Wagner began her tenure in the Norman Public Schools in 1991 and is currently the Orchestra Director at Norman North High School. The 2010-2011 school year is her fourth year as Orchestra Coordinator. In addition to her duties at the high school, Ms. Wagner teaches a beginning string class and team teaches at the middle school level. During her tenure at North, the orchestras have consistently earned the State Sweepstakes Award. In 2002, the Symphonic Orchestra was selected to perform at the 56th Annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and in 2006 the Symphonic Orchestra was selected to perform at the American String Teachers National Convention. Ms. Wagner holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, and has earned her National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification. In 2002, Ms. Wagner was named as one of “50 Directors Who Make A Difference” for the State of Oklahoma by the School Band and Orchestra Magazine. In 2005, she was named the Oklahoma Music Educator of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools. In addition, she is listed in “Who’s Who in America,” “Who’s Who of American Women,” and “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.” Ms. Wagner is a violinist and performs regularly as a member of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as other orchestral and chamber music groups. Jim
Meiller, started his teaching career in 1980
in Lexington, Oklahoma. He has
taught in Norman since 1983, at Norman High since the district split into
two high schools in 1997. As
Director of Instrumental Music at Norman High School his teaching duties
include the NHS Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Symphony
Orchestra. He is also Conductor of the pit orchestra for musical
productions, most recently Hello Dolly and Oklahoma. During the year he may be found team teaching at Irving or Alcott
Middle School.
Jean Statham, Co-Conductor of the Norman High School Orchestra, has taught in the Norman Public Schools for the past twenty-seven years. She presently teaches the NHS ninth grade orchestra in addition to her other duties at Norman High. She graduated with honors from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and received a Master of Applied Music (cello) degree with honors from the University of Oklahoma. Ms. Statham is a professional cellist performing with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra, Lyric Theatre Orchestra, and is principal cellist with the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed with orchestras from Texas and Arkansas and has conducted workshops in string systems around the state. Her professional memberships include MENC, OMEA, ASTA, OSTA, and AFM.

L. Trent Davis is Director of Instrumental Music and Director of Bands at Norman North High School. Before coming to Norman North, Mr. Davis was the Associate Director of Bands and Director of Sports Bands at Southeastern Louisiana University. While at Southeastern Mr. Davis resurrected the athletic bands after a 20-year absence from the Southeastern campus. Under his direction The “Spirit of the Southland” athletic bands became the center of pride and spirit at all athletic events and made appearances regionally and nationally. Prior to Southeastern Mr. Davis was a band director in the public schools of Oklahoma for 13 years, most recently as Director of Bands at Edmond North High School. Mr. Davis’s band have been recognized for their excellence by being chosen as honor groups for the Oklahoma Music Educators Convention and have consistently received superior ratings regionally and nationally. Mr. Davis received his Bachelor of Music Education degree with a percussion emphasis from the University of Oklahoma in Norman. As a member of the University of Oklahoma Percussion Orchestra, he appears on the CD “Laser Woodcuts” and performed at the 1985 Percussive Arts Society Convention in Los Angles, California. Mr. Davis received his Master of Music in Wind Conducting from the University of Missouri at Columbia where he was a conducting graduate assistant with the Wind Ensemble and assistant to the Director with “Marching Mizzou.” Currently Mr. Davis holds ABD status for the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Davis has studied wind conducting with William Wakefield, Dale J. Lonis, and Jerry Junkin. Mr. Davis has been active as an adjudicator, studio teacher, and honor band clinician in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Louisiana. He has been in demand as a music arranger, percussion clinician, and drill designer for high school bands in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Mr. Davis has performed professionally as a percussionist with the Missouri Symphony, Arrow Rock Lyceum Repertory Theatre, Ardmore Little Theatre, and Carrousel Productions of Oklahoma. Currently Mr. Davis is an endorser for Innovative Percussion products. Mr. Davis’ professional affiliations include Oklahoma Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, College Band Directors National Association, College Music Society, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Don Annesley
Don Annesley is the band director at Irving Middle School. The 2011-2012 school year is his first year of teaching in the Norman Public Schools.
Kay Kirtley Ms. Kirtley earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Wichita State University and a Master of Education from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. She is a member of the American String Teachers Association and the Music Educators National Conference. Ms. Kirtley has guest conducted, adjudicated and led string clinics in Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, California, and Massachusetts. She served as a conductor with the Guy Fraser Harrison Academy's Oklahoma Youth Orchestras program for eighteen years. |

Martha Griffith Martha Griffith is in her 8th year of teaching music with the Norman Public Schools, 2010-2011 is her fourth year as Longfellow Band Director.
Steve Waddell Steve Waddell is the orchestra director at Longfellow Middle School and has taught in the Norman Public Schools for fourteen years. He also teaches the beginning orchestra class at Jefferson Elementary. Mr. Waddell grew up in Wichita, Kansas and earned his Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education degrees at Wichita State University. Mr. Waddell currently plays viola with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed with the Wichita Symphony and Lawton Philharmonic. His professional memberships include OMEA, ASTA, MENC, and TODA.

Traveling Teachers |
Marty Dalton teaches 5th grade orchestra at Eisenhower, McKinley, Wilson, Jackson, and Roosevelt Elementary schools. Before coming to Norman he taught orchestra in Lawton (5th-12th grade) and in Denton, Texas (5th-8th grade). Mr. Dalton received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he studied violin with Stanley Chepaitis and cello with Dieter Wulfhorst. During this time he had the opportunity to play in some of the greatest concert halls in America, including Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Hall, in New York City. Before graduating from IUP he studied violin and chamber music at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, Croatia as a student of Goran Koncar (First violinist of the Zagreb String Quartet and former concertmaster of the Royal Philharmonic, London) and Zlatko Rucner (principal cellist of I Solisti di Zagreb). After returning to the United States, Mr. Dalton came to the University of Oklahoma, where he received his Masters degree in violin performance. At OU he studied violin with Felicia Moye, Diane Pascal, and Peter Rovit. He also studied viola with Matthew Dane. Currently, Mr. Dalton plays first violin with the Lawton Philharmonic, and is concertmaster of the OU Civic orchestra. Mr. Dalton loves teaching beginning strings because it gives him the opportunity to share his love of music with enthusiastic young students.
Mark Osborn currently teaches 5th grade beginning strings at Adams, Lakeview, Madison, and Truman Elementary Schools. He is also a team teacher with Norman North, Norman High and in the Middle Schools. Mr. Osborn earned his Bachelor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Oklahoma. He also performs in the bass section with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Osborn conducts the Norman Festival Strings, a 6th and 7th grade orchestra associated with the Guy Fraser Harrison Academy for the Performing Arts. He is the co-founder of the OK Bass Bash, a bass camp that meets each summer for Middle School and High School students. For more information go to okbassbash.com Mr. Osborn was the Double Bass Instructor at the University of Oklahoma from 2002-2006. In 2001 Mr. Osborn was chosen as the Teacher Fellow for the Kennedy Center. He was able to study with members of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C. He has been a bass player with the Lawton Philharmonic and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. He has also participated in summer festivals at Waterloo, NJ; Chautauqua, NY; Hot Springs, AR; and Interlochen, MI. In his spare time he enjoys fishing and playing with his two young daughters.
