Adult Education

adult classes

The Norman Adult Learning Center offers literacy and English language classes for adults to assist them with their personal goals. We offer classes to help prepare adults to take a high school equivalency test such as the General Education Development (GED), the High School Equivalency Test HiSET), or the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC).  We also offer classes that assist adults in increasing their English language skills or improve their knowledge of literacy and/or math.  The Norman Adult Learning Center has a free class for you.

The Norman Adult Learning Center offers classes at various times and days throughout the week. The state of Oklahoma recognizes three tests that will result in a State Diploma upon satisfactory completion; the GED, the HiSET, and the TASC.  Whether you completed 5th grade or finished just short of graduating your Senior year, our experienced, professional cadre of Teachers will work with you to help you achieve your goals!

16 and 17 Years Olds

If you are 16 or 17 years old and are interested in GED as an alternative to homeschooling and/or regular school, GED may be an option for you. We highly recommend speaking with a School Counselor and having a serious conversation with a responsible adult before considering GED classes.

Additionally, a meeting with a Norman Adult Learning Center staff member will be necessary before we will allow you to enroll in classes to make sure that you and your parents/guardians understand the expectations of the program.

High School Equivalency Testing

The Norman Adult Learning Center (NALC) does not currently offer testing services.
To sign-up for a test, potential test-takers must visit GED , HiSET , or TASC to create an account, choose their test time/location and pay for the test.  It is highly recommended that potential test-takers at least take practice exams to determine if they are adequately prepared.

Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

In addition to GED classes, the Norman Adult Learning Center is also able to offer Adult ESL classes to members of the community from all over the world.  Two classes are offered in the evenings during the week, a basic skills class and an advanced learners class.  Newly enrolled students are provided the BEST PLUS assessment and then reassessed after 60 class hours to determine their language growth.  Students do not have to be legal residents, hold a specific visa or meet any other requirement(s) to enroll in classes.
