TERRI RICE WELBORN

Terri Rice Welborn is currently the 8th grade counselor at Whittier Middle School where she has served middle level students for the past 7 years. Ms. Welborn has a total of 19 years in public education, serving as both as a school counselor and a special education teacher. Ms. Welborn, a Norman native, graduated from Norman High School in 1985 and then attended the University of Oklahoma where she earned her degree in Social Work.

To reach her goal of working in the education field, she went on to earn her M. Ed. from the University of Central Oklahoma, 1991, in the field of teaching Special Education; Emotionally Disturbed Program. She began educational career teaching in the emotionally disturbed program in the Moore Public School System. Soon after, Ms. Welborn moved to Wichita, Kansas for family business where she continued her teaching career in the Derby Public School System. While there she earned a second M. Ed in School Counseling from Wichita State University in 1995. Upon returning to her hometown, Ms. Welborn continued her career in Moore Public Schools. When her son began school at Truman, she made the decision to move to NPS and was fortunate to be hired at Whittier. In 2008, she was awarded her National Board Certification in School Counseling.

Ms. Welborn is passionate about her work with middle school students and believes her role as a school counselor is an integral part of team supporting students in their educational journey. She leads programs such as Peer Helping, Red Ribbon, Stand for the Silent, and Pennies for Patients. In addition to school, Ms. Welborn enjoys spending time with her 13 year old son who is a 7th grader at Whittier, she also loves to travel and collect historical memorabilia.
