      CURRICULUM INFORMATION

        "The Literacy Improvement Act"

        This legislation requires any person under the age of 18 to provide the Oklahoma Department of Transportation proof of reading proficiency in order to obtain a state driver's license for a car or a motorcycle.

        Proficiency is established by:

        1. making a satisfactory score on the 8th Grade Reading Criterion Referenced Test (CRT).

        2. making a satisfactory score on an alternative reading proficiency test approved by the State Board of Education, or

        3. having documentation that as a special education student you are reading at your potential.

        Retesting:

        1. The district must offer four (4) or more make-up tests for students who have not passed the 8th Grade CRT in reading.

        2. The first retest is free.

        3. A charge is $25 will be assessed for subsequent retests.

          Those tests will be provided by the schools on a regular basis. Check with your high school for test dates.

        Documentation of reading proficiency and attendance for students for students in our community is provided through the Norman Public Schools. For additional information, call a secondary school registrar.
