About the Indian Education Program     

Goals and Objectives

* Reduce the dropout rate among Native American students

The Title VII Program was implemented in 1974.  The Johnson O’Malley (JOM) has been in Norman since 1991.

 

J O M Program Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility for the JOM Program requires a student to be eligible for tribal membership or be a ¼ degree Indian blood or descendant of a tribal member of a federally recognized tribe with written documentation. The following documents are required to enroll in JOM:

* Tribal Membership Card/Letter or Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB)

* Birth Certificate

The Johnson O’Malley Program services include the after-school tutoring program, assistance with school supplies and classroom fees, educational opportunities/competitions, and cultural programs.  Currently, our JOM Program serves approximately 970 Native American students throughout Norman.

The Title VII Program provides our students:

·        Elementary Tutoring Program

·        Secondary Tutoring Program

·        ACT/SAT/PSAT Test Scholarships

·        ACT/SAT/PSAT Prep Scholarships

·        Advanced Placement Test Fee Scholarships

·        Fees for Honor Society and other Educational Programs

·        College Links Program—Yearly “College Road Trips” for students in grades 2nd, 7th, 9th-12th in preparation for college

·        Cap and Gown Scholarships

·        Career Fair

·        Career Counseling

This program serves approximately 1,400 students district-wide.
