Dear Fifth Grader and Parents,

The Norman Public Schools Fine Arts Department is offering BEGINNING CLASSES IN VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO, AND BASS to all interested fifth grade students. The classes will begin on Tuesday, September 8 and will be held Monday through Thursday of each week thereafter. Classes are thirty minutes in length and are held during school hours.

Early in the school year, the Norman orchestra teachers will present a program at each elementary school to familiarize the students with the instruments. At that time, students will receive more detailed information. On Thursday, September 3rd, we will have a special opportunity for parents and students to come meet the orchestra teachers, ask any questions they may have, and even meet with local music stores to get information about renting instruments.

String instruments come in a variety of sizes. Orchestra teachers will begin sizing interested students on Tuesday, September 8; the first day of orchestra. At that time, the orchestra teacher will provide information on the instrument size and other equipment for you to rent and/or purchase at a metro music store if you are unable to come to the optional parent information session.

We hope you and your student will discuss their interest in learning to play a string instrument.
