A Community Effort to Boost Literacy
The funding for this project was made possible through the generous support of the Norman Rotary Club and was supported in part by a Rotary District Grant, demonstrating the broader Rotary network's dedication to local education initiatives.
"The installation of the book vending machine is a simple but powerful way to make books accessible and exciting for our students," Norman Rotary Club President Liz McKown said. "We believe that putting books directly into the hands of children is key to unlocking their full potential."
Superintendent Dr. Nick Migliorino expressed gratitude for the club’s investment in students.
“We are incredibly grateful for the Norman Rotary Club’s continued support of our students and schools,” Dr. Migliorino said. “This book vending machine isn’t just a fun addition; it’s a powerful way to celebrate student success and inspire a love of reading. When our community invests in our children, it strengthens the engaging, supportive environments we work to create every day so all students can thrive.”
Rotary's Long History of Promoting Reading
This effort is the latest in the Norman Rotary Club's long-standing tradition of promoting reading proficiency in Norman Public Schools. The club has championed literacy for years through its Success Cycle Program.
This successful program encourages students to boost their reading proficiency by entering them into special drawings for prizes such as nooks and bicycles when they achieve reading goals. The book vending machine will complement this existing program by providing immediate, tangible rewards for students' dedication to reading.
The community and media are invited to attend the ceremony to witness the launch of this inspiring addition to Jackson Elementary.
