Norman Public Schools is hitting the road once again this summer with the return of the NPS Learning Bus, providing free access to books, literacy resources and hands-on learning opportunities for children and families across the community.

The NPS Learning Bus will travel to neighborhoods, parks and community locations throughout June and July, giving visitors the opportunity to check out books directly from the mobile library. The collection includes materials for readers of all ages, from board books for babies and picture books for young children to chapter books, graphic novels and young adult literature for teens.

The program is open to everyone in the community. Visitors do not need to be Norman Public Schools students to participate or check out books.

"Our goal is to make reading accessible and convenient for families throughout the summer," Director of Libraries & Instructional Technology Amanda Kordeliski said. "The Learning Bus helps us connect students and community members with books while keeping them engaged in learning when school is out."

In addition to book checkout services, public librarians from the Norman Public Library System will join the Learning Bus at park locations each week. Librarians will lead STEM activities for children and provide information about the library's summer learning programs, including opportunities for families to sign up and participate.

The Learning Bus will operate daytime routes throughout June. Due to high temperatures during daytime hours in July, daytime stops will conclude after June 25. However, the Learning Bus will continue serving families during evening hours at the Westwood Family Aquatic Center during open swim nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. through July 23.
