2026 Teacher of the Year Brooke Barnett

Norman Public Schools celebrated its outstanding educators, staff, and community partners at the annual Celebration of Excellence at the Embassy Suites in Norman. The event was “Neon” themed and brought together district leaders, educators, and community supporters for an evening dedicated to recognizing the individuals who make a lasting impact on students every day.

Superintendent Dr. Nick Migliorino welcomed guests and reflected on the importance of honoring those who serve across the district.

“What makes Norman Public Schools truly special is not just what happens in our classrooms, but the people and partnerships that help our entire district shine,” Dr. Migliorino said. “Nights like this remind us that excellence doesn’t happen in isolation; it’s something we build together.”

The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the 2026 District Teacher of the Year, awarded to Brooke Barnett of Lakeview Elementary School. Barnett was recognized for her exceptional dedication to student learning, innovative instructional practices, and unwavering commitment to creating a positive and engaging classroom environment.

"I am truly humbled to be named District Teacher of the Year and grateful for the opportunity to represent a profession that means so much to me,” Barnett said. “In a world that can feel uncertain, schools are places of stability, and teachers are often the steady presence that students rely on. We are beacons of consistency, hope, and love, and that responsibility is both humbling and deeply transformative. This award is not just a reflection of me; it reflects every incredible teacher in our district who shows up in big and small ways for their students, the dedicated administrators who guide us, the families who trust us with their children, and the students who inspire us to be better each day."

In addition to the Teacher of the Year honor, several other outstanding individuals and organizations were recognized:

  • Rookie Teacher of the Year, sponsored by BancFirst: Ryan King, Norman High School

  • Lois K. Annesley Support Employee of the Year, sponsored by Oklahoma Electric Cooperative: Chelsi Hill, Health Services

  • Special Education Teacher of the Year, sponsored by Scott Martin and Family: Laura Minyon-Clouse, Whittier Middle School

  • Principal of the Year, sponsored by Oklahoma Educators Credit Union and Triumph Team: Amber Bui, Kennedy Elementary School

  • Public Education Ambassador Award, sponsored by Alphabest: The Norman Rotary Club for their continued dedication and support of the district.

Each honoree was recognized for their unique contributions and commitment to supporting students, staff, and the broader school community.

The Celebration of Excellence also included recognition of Site Teachers of the Year and honored the collective efforts of educators and staff across the district. The evening was made possible through the generous support of community partners and sponsors who continue to invest in public education.

“Tonight is a special opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate the incredible people who make our district shine,” Dr. Migliorino said. “Each of you brings energy, passion, and dedication that lights the way for our students every single day.”
